Two cities, two climates

Riyadh sits in the heart of the Najd. Summer days are fierce, but desert winter nights can turn properly cold, and the evening gathering moves close to the fire. Here, a real flame is not only atmosphere; it is part of how winter is enjoyed.

Jeddah is on the Red Sea coast, where the climate stays mild and humid most of the year. Here, a fireplace is chosen for presence and design first, and it has to make sense in air-conditioned rooms through the long warm season.

That difference shapes what we recommend.

Riyadh: the real flame, indoors and on the roof

The men’s majlis

In many Riyadh villas, the men’s majlis is the most important room in the house, often large, high-ceilinged and used for long winter evenings. A long linear bioethanol flame set low along one wall gives every guest a view, and gives off a gentle warmth on cold nights. The Denver F6 burner is made from 62 cm to 3.92 m, so the flame can follow the wall. See designing a majlis around a fireplace.

For long evenings, two details matter:

  • Room volume. Each burner has a minimum room size in its datasheet, for example 115 m³ for the 1,120 mm Denver F6. A large majlis is usually well above it, and we check it for every project.
  • Refuelling. An optional 60 L automatic tank means nobody has to refill the burner during a gathering.

If you love the look of a wood fire, LogicWood combines a living bioethanol flame with ceramic logs and a glowing ember bed.

The roof and the courtyard

Riyadh families use the roof and the courtyard (the hosh) in the cool months. An outdoor built-in burner set into a stone bench, or a fire table at the centre of the seating, turns them into a winter room. Read outdoor fireplaces for Gulf terraces.

Jeddah: presence all year

On the coast, the most useful fireplace is often the one you can switch on any evening of the year. A water vapour (Hybrid Mist) fireplace gives the look of a flame from light and mist, with no heat, so it suits a Jeddah living room in July. It even adds a little humidity to air-conditioned rooms, and its surface stays cool to the touch around children.

For those who want a real flame for the cooler weeks, a convertible casing lets a Hybrid Mist burner be replaced later by a bioethanol one, without redesigning the wall. Our comparison of bioethanol and water vapour goes into detail.

Istiraha and winter camping

Saudi winter culture happens outdoors too: at the istiraha, on the farm, and on desert trips. A made-to-measure outdoor fireplace belongs in the open-air seating of an istiraha or a villa garden. It is not for use inside tents or closed rooms: outdoor models are for the open air only.
